Over the summer of 2013, thinking ahead to the prospect of writing a trio for berimbau, I sat down at the piano one evening and developed a 12-bar harmonic progression playable on three instruments in which no chord is ever repeated. This progression became the basis for the work upon which a series of increasingly dense rhythmic hockets ensues. – Gregory Beyer
