Excited about writing something for berimbau but don’t know where to begin? Writing for an unfamiliar musical instrument can be a daunting task.
Thankfully, Arcomusical has carefully assembled a Style and Notation Guide for Composers to get you well on your way. We’ll be thrilled to collaborate with you!
Arcomusical Style and Notation Guide for Composers
In September 2016, Arcomusical completed its first edition of its style and notation guide for composers interested in working with our organization. In the first months of its use, our friend and colleague Kyle Krause offered invaluable critical feedback during the composition of his sextet, “Gate of the Sphinxes.” So quickly thereafter, in March 2017, we released a second extended edition of the guide.
In early 2024, after several years and several collaborations with interested composers, our repertoire having grown and matured substantially and we recognized the need to revamp yet again and develop a third edition to our guide.
After several months of focused discussion and collaboration, Arcomusical Publications Manager Matt Schneider and Artistic Director Gregory Beyer have completely overhauled and, in August 2024, released this latest edition, which we make this freely available to anyone interested in learning more about writing for berimbau solo or ensemble.
