The berimbau is the most well-known member of a large family of instruments known as musical bows. In fact, the name of our organization, Arcomusical, means “musical bow” in Portuguese!
In a thesis and subsequent articles, Artistic Director Gregory Beyer has written extensively about the berimbau’s traditions and practices in Brazil and about its African relatives throughout southern Africa.
