On January 22nd, Arcomusical was featured in a segment on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday. NPR deliberately aligned our story with the timing of a change of the guard of Morning Edition hosts. Well-known NPR foreign correspondent, Lulu Garcia-Navarro, began hosting Weekend Edition Sunday this year. Garcia-Navarro comes to the position from her most recent reporting in Brazil where she covered everything from the alarming deforestation rate of the Amazonian Rainforest, the Olympics in Rio, and coffee and climate change. Her brilliant journalism has received multiple prestigious accolades for its courageous, defiant, and breathtakingly beautiful approach to storytelling. It was an honor to speak with her, and even more so for the music of Arcomusical to be deliberately juxtaposed with the incredible berimbau music of Naná Vasconcelos (1944-2016).
In short, this was an incredibly moving opportunity for Arcomusical to shine a beautiful light on our beloved berimbau with the NPR community.Listen to our Weekend Edition Sunday story
